塩と胡椒入れのミュージアムとは

SALT AND PEPPERSHAKERS ソルトアンドペパーシェーカー「塩胡椒入れ」はどこの家でも食卓の上に見かける小さくって可愛い容器です。
中世のヨーロッパでは塩と胡椒は料理に欠かせないものでした。良質の塩は高価で常に不足していました。盛大な祝宴では精巧な銀器に塩が盛られトップテーブルに置かれました。1953年にフランシス一世のために作られたとても豪華な塩胡椒入れは装飾に海の神ネプチューンをあしらい工芸技術の粋を集めたものでした。
一般的な商品としてソルトアンドペパーシェーカーが作られたのは1869年頃だと言われています。最初はビクトリアデザインを忠実に映したものでした。
やがて1900年台の初めから1920年にかけて時代の流行を取り入れた新しいデザインのシェーカーが多く作られるようになります。
シェーカーのデザインは多種多様にわたり、それぞれがその時代背景やストーリを持っています。人々の関心につれて自然や都市、日常の生活の物々、可愛い動物や、印章深い人々、そしてアールデコの抽象化された形状まで様々なバリエーションが世界中で作られました。
素材もその時代の雰囲気を映し出しています。塩は銀を腐食するため銀のシェーカーは金で裏打ちされ、青いガラスの内張りが取り付けられました。
初期のシェーカーは主にガラスや磁器で作られていました。
型吹きのガラスは大量生産を可能にしました。やがてプラスティックが誕生します。
それは最終的に実用的で手頃な価格の材料となるのですが、発明されたばかりの頃はまだ一般には行き渡らない高級品でした。
当時作られたプラスティックのシェーカーは今の水準で見てもとても手が込んでいます。
いまソルトアンドペパーシェーカーには欧米を中心として世界に数十万人というコレクターがおり、国際的なイベントも毎年行われています。

In medieval Europe,Salt and pepper were indispensable in cooking. Good quality salt was expensive and always scarce. In a grand banquet, salt was served in fine silverware and placed on the top table.A very luxurious salt and pepper shakers made for king Francis I in 1953 is well known as a masterpiece
of craftsmanship with the decoration of the sea god Neptune.
Salt and pepper shakers as a commercial product appeared around 1869.
At first, it was a strict reflection of Victorian design. Gradually, from the beginning of the 1900s to 1920s, many new designs were coming out reflecting the trends of their times.
Shaker designs vary widely.And each design has its own background and story.Depending on the people’s interest, various variations have been created around the world, from nature and cities, everyday life things, cute animals, stamped people, art deco abstract shapes, and so on.
The materials show the transitions of the era.The salt corroded the silver, so the silver shaker was plated with gold and fitted with a blue glass lining.
Early shakers were mainly made of glass and porcelain.Mold blown glass had enabled mass production.Soon plastic came.It eventually becomes a useful and affordable material, but when it was just invented, it was a luxury item that was not widely available.The plastic shakers made at that time are very
elaborate and meticulously crafted.
Currently,Salt and Pepper Shaker has hundreds of thousands of collectors worldwide, mainly in Europe and the United States.International events are held every year.
